Privacy Policy

Effective October 7, 2026

FreeUp helps you sort and delete photos and videos on your iPhone. It was built so that your photos stay yours. This policy explains, in plain words, what the app does with your information.

The short version

  • Your photos and videos never leave your iPhone. We never see them.
  • There is no account. We don't ask for your name, email or phone number.
  • The app may send anonymous usage and crash data to help us improve it. It never includes photos, file names, locations or personal data.
  • Tips are handled by Apple.
  • Reminders are created on your iPhone. We don't send them from a server.

Your photos and videos

The app asks for access to your photo library so it can show you your photos and videos and delete the ones you choose. You can give it access to all your photos or only to the ones you pick, and you can change this at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos.

All sorting, filtering, size checks and deleting happen on your iPhone. Your photos, videos, their file names, the places they were taken and the other details stored with them are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.

If you use iCloud Photos, your iPhone may download a full-size photo or video from your own iCloud account when you open it. That happens through Apple's Photos system, between your iPhone and Apple, and does not involve us.

When you delete items, the app asks iOS to delete them. iOS asks you to confirm, then moves them to the Recently Deleted album in the Photos app, where they stay for 30 days before iOS removes them for good.

What stays on your iPhone

To remember your progress, the app keeps a small amount of information on your iPhone: which months you have finished, which items you marked to keep or delete, your settings, your badges and your pace. It also keeps a record of tips you have left, so it doesn't ask you again too soon. This information is stored only on your device. If you delete the app, it is deleted too.

Anonymous usage and crash data

To understand which features are used and to find and fix crashes, the app may send anonymous usage and crash data to PostHog, an analytics service we use.

This data can include things like:

  • which screens and features are used, for example that a month was finished or that undo was tapped;
  • simple counts, for example how many photos were sorted or how much space was saved;
  • your device model, iOS version, app version and language;
  • technical details about a crash or error.

It never includes your photos or videos, their file names, the places they were taken, your contacts, or personal data such as your name, email address or phone number. It is not linked to your Apple Account, and we don't use it to identify you.

We use this data only to improve the app. We don't use it for advertising, we don't sell it, and we don't use it to track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Purchases and tips

The app is free to use. Optional tips, and any optional purchases the app offers in the future, are processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles your payment details, and we never see your card, your name or your Apple Account details. The app receives a confirmation from Apple that a payment was made, so it can thank you for a tip or unlock what you bought. Apple's own privacy policy applies to your payment.

Notifications

If you turn on reminders, the app schedules them on your iPhone. They are local notifications: they are not sent from our servers, and no information leaves your phone to create them. You can turn them off in the app or in Settings > Notifications.

Sharing

Nothing is shared unless you choose to share it. If you share a photo, the app, or a progress card, you pick where it goes using the iOS share sheet, and only what you choose to send leaves your phone.

What we don't do

  • We don't run our own server for your data, and we don't have accounts.
  • We don't show ads, and the app contains no advertising code.
  • We don't sell or rent any data.
  • We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.

This website

This website doesn't use cookies or analytics. It is hosted by Vercel, which may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) to run and protect the service.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

  • Change or remove photo access at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos.
  • Turn notifications off in Settings > Notifications.
  • Delete the app to remove everything it stored on your iPhone.

Because we don't collect personal data, we hold nothing that identifies you. If you have a question about your data, contact us and we'll help.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update it on this page and change the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll also mention it in the app's update notes.
